Here’s Why You Should Pay Special Attention To Your Car’s Warranty

Any new device – from home appliances to personal gadgets – are sold with a warranty, and this includes your car as well. All new cars (and some pre-owned ones) are sold with some form of warranty or the other. The extent of the warranty depends on the market, the manufacturer, and the car model. And most car buyers tend to pay less attention to this warranty because there is also an insurance policy that covers the car. Why are both needed, though? What is the difference?

Understanding The Difference

There is a fundamental difference between a car’s warranty and its insurance coverage.

  • Warranty is a promise from the product which has been built to the high standards that the brand holds itself to, and if any parts are found not to meet these standards, the manufacturer will replace the parts
  • Insurance covers the cost of repair should anything happen to the car, such as an accident in which the car and/ or its passengers are affected. However, this coverage is only provided if it is part of the policy and if the insurer deems the claim is eligible.

Why Is Car Warranty Important?

Your car’s warranty is important for several reasons. First off, it offers you peace of mind about the quality of the product you have purchased. A product that comes with longer warranty has slim margins for error, so it is unlikely to fail you due to the stringent quality control it undergoes.

Secondly, even the best testing programmes cannot account for every single permutation and combination of factors during regular usage of a product, particularly when it is a car which has scores of moving parts. A car warranty offers you a type of security to fall back on in the unlikely event of something going wrong. Without a warranty, you, as the customer, would have to bear the cost of any breakdown or repair required during regular usage.

Ford’s Promise To Its Customers

At Ford, delivering quality vehicles is one of the foremost critical promises that the company makes to its customers, along with safety, smart or latest technologies and green or eco-friendly, easy on pocket running costs.

Ford has complete confidence in its products and every vehicle that comes out of the company’s factories goes through stringent quality test which involves a whopping 700-point or trust mark check. To offer peace of mind to its customers, Ford provides end-to-end warranty packages at competitive costs.

What Is Covered Under Ford’s Warranty?

  • Factory-Warranty: Ford offers a standard 3-year/100,000-km factory warranty across its range. This means that should something go wrong within this timeframe; Ford will replace the covered part(s) free of charge. This includes the cost of the part, labour and tax. A clear and concise summary of the terms and conditions of Ford’s warranty is available on Ford’s website.
  • Extended Warranty: Customers can opt for this at the time of purchase at really affordable prices. The extended warranty can run up to six years and 1.5 lakh km, depending on the car model and variant. The extended warranty cost also depends on these factors, and the prices can be viewed on the Ford Extended Warranty website.
  • Any Time Warranty: A unique product offered by Ford, Any Time Warranty lets you extend your Ford car’s warranty even if it has lapsed. This offering covers your Ford car for 1 year/20,000 km from the time of purchasing the warranty. Again, pricing differs from model to model. However, to be eligible for this, your Ford car must be less than six years old and have less than 1.2 lakh km on the odometer.
  • Warranty on Pre-Owned Cars: Ford Assured – the brand’s vertical for buying and selling pre-owned cars – also offers a flexible warranty of 1 year/20,000 km on all Ford cars and select non-Ford cars purchased through the dealership. In addition to this, you are also entitled to two free services by the company’s expert mechanics.

It is important to note that warranty applies to regular use and does not apply to parts that undergo wear and tear as their life depends on how they are used. Your car warranty remains valid as long as you bring in your vehicle to an authorised service centre for service at the intervals recommended in the owner’s manual. An authorised service centre is a necessary component of the warranty, as Ford has highly trained staff at its service centres. It cannot guarantee the quality of service or technician outside of its authorised service centres.
